cPanel update causing SMTP authentication problem

04/07/2011 12:39

As reported on the cPanel forums, a recent cPanel 11.30 update has caused a problem with SMTP authentication which prevents the "POP Before SMTP" form of authentication from working.

http://forums.cpanel.net/f43/case-50859-pop-before-smtp-no-longer-working-since-weekend-217461.html

If you are experiencing problems when trying to send mail through a cPanel server, a simple solution is to configure your email program to explicitly log in to the server when sending mail.

To do this in Outlook 2003, take the following steps ...

Click "Tools" >> "Email Accounts"
Select "View or change existing email accounts" and click "Next"
Select the email account you want to fix and click "Change".
Click the "More Settings ..." button, then click on the "Outgoing Server" tab.
Tick the box beside "My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication and select the option "Use same settings as my incoming mail server".
Then click "OK", "Next" and "Finish".

If you have any questions about this please contact us.
